BDS (Hons), FDSRCS, MBChb, FRCSAndrew qualified in dentistry with honours from Bristol in 1986 (BDS) and subsequently in Medicine with honours from Birmingham in 1993 (MBChB). He attained his fellowship in dental surgery (FDSRCS) in 1992 and in surgery in 1995 (FRCS), both at the first attempt.
He carried out Oral Surgery training in Birmingham and Liverpool from 1986 to 1989, basic surgical training in Bristol 1994 to 1996 and higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Liverpool from 1996 to 2001. He passed his exit FRCS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the Gold Medal in 2000 {FRCS (OMFS)}. He is on the Specialist List for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery.
He referees articles for the British, European and International Journals of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and for Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology and is Section Editor in TMJ (temporomandibular or jaw joint) surgery for the British Journal. He has 16 peer reviewed papers and 32 international scientific presentations. He is secretary for the British TMJ Surgeons Association and is an internationally invited speaker in TMJ surgery, being one of only 8 surgeons in the UK currently able to provide TMJ Joint Replacement Surgery.
He has been a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham since 2001. He has special interests in TMJ disease and facial deformity and carries out complex Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, The Park Hospital and The Woodthorpe Hospital, Nottingham. He commenced the provision of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants at Trent Bridge in 2008.
